Kota Kinabalu: PARTY vice president Junz Wong (pic) for the first time revealed that he left fellow opposition DAP to join Warisan because the peninsula-based party never offered him a senior position.
He also said his former party failed to implement many of his ideas and suggestions.
"That's why I discussed with Shafie to form a new party and together we aim to form a new government to help the people," he said.
He denied talk that he joined Warisan because of money.
It was learnt that some 5,100 former Umno and Parti Cinta Sabah members have joined the party.
The breakdown was 2,300 former Umno members in Keningau and 2,000 from Pensiangan whereas 800 were formerly PCS members from Liawan.
Registration forms were submitted by Dato Awang Jasrin from Keningau, former Pensiangan Umno member Ampulas Kaluhu and head coordinator of PCS Liawan Melvin Datuk Jaikol Imbayan.
PETALING JAYA: A Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leader has called for "extreme vetting" in Malaysia in the wake of United States President Donald Trump's controversial executive order for the same to be applied to refugees and immigrants entering the US.
But where Trump's "extreme vetting" directive seeks to keep terrorists out of the US, Darell Leiking wants "extreme vetting" to ensure identity cards are only issued to genuine Sabahans.
"(Sabah chief minister) Pairin has hinted that there is no solution to the massive number of illegal immigrants in the state except by re-issuing the identity card.
"I believe he is referring to the re-issuance of the standard Malaysian MyKad (to Malaysians), but how will we be sure that this exercise will not be used instead as a means to register more illegal immigrants as Malaysian citizens?" said Leiking.
The Warisan deputy president was commenting on the completed report of the Technical Committee (TC) of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah.
In the report, the TC also presented its recommendations on resolving the problem which has long troubled many Sabahans.
In the 1990s, "Projek IC" allegedly resulted in a number of identity cards being issued to illegal immigrants.
Should there be another project to issue new ICs, Leiking said "extreme vetting" must be applied so that only genuine Sabahans received them
Leiking, who is Penampang MP, said the state had the sovereign authority to register births and deaths as well as bar non-Sabahans from entering Sabah.
"We first need to secure Sabah by imposing extreme and tighter border security and reinstating immigration controls at all points of entry, including Menumbok to prevent non-vetted entry to Sabah from Labuan as well as illegal immigrants from entering the state.
"Next, we need to flush out all illegal immigrants including stateless kids and IMM13 holders in the state for repatriation to their countries of origin."
To do this, he said, Sabah needed to have an "extreme vetting procedure".
The next step was "a major birth certificate registration exercise" statewide, he said.
Leiking said should Warisan wrest control of Sabah from Barisan Nasional, it would introduce the Sabah Card to be issued to genuine Sabahans as a means to protect the people of the state.
The Sabah Card could even be issued before or after the re-issuance of the MyKad, he added.
"Give us a chance in the coming general election and we will show everyone how to deal with the issue of illegal immigrants, and how to take back our rights as Sabah." 作者: 大佬 时间: 2017-2-14 03:35 PM 亚洲时报
GE14 | Parti Warisan Sabah is only interested in working with relevant parties in the state, the party's vice-president Junz Wong said.
His response comes after questions were raised on the opposition pact in Sabah led by Warisan, which does not include the Pakatan Harapan component party Amanah.
However, Wong insisted that the pact was not one between Warisan and Harapan.
"We do not need Harapan in Sabah, but we work at the national level with them to help them defeat BN.
"In Sabah, we work with Harapan components.
"In Sabah, those that are still relevant are PKR and the DAP," Wong told Malaysiakini.
Asked whether there were never any plans to include Amanah, Wong reiterated the relevance factor.
Political realities in Sabah, he added, are also different from that in the peninsula.
"We are not here this time around to take care of anybody's feelings, we want to win the elections.
"We are not prepared to give you one or two seats because you are here or there," said the Likas assemblyperson.
Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal announced at the party's inaugural congress on Monday that the party has sealed an electoral pact with the DAP and PKR.
Sabah Amanah chief Hamzah Abdullah confirmed that Amanah was never part of the discussions among the other three parties.
"Maybe because we are a small party, I don't know. But we've heard talks asking Amanah not to contest in Sabah.
"We never received any invitation for seat negotiations with Warisan."
'Harapan should have led talks'
However, Hamzah said, Amanah will field candidates in the Kalabakan and Batu Sapi parliamentary seats, as well as in the Merotai and Bugaya state seats.
This, he said, was already agreed upon by the Sabah Harapan presidential council.
This was also confirmed by Sabah DAP chief Stephen Wong.
"But I don't know how it is in the negotiations with Warisan.
"I don't know whether Amanah is in or not, but we should be in, because we are part and parcel of Harapan.
Wong is of the opinion that the Harapan platform should have been used in the discussions with Warisan.
"During our Harapan meeting, I mentioned that we should use Harapan as a whole to discuss. But (Sabah Harapan chief) Christina (Liew) thinks otherwise."
Malaysiakini has contacted Liew and is awaiting her response on the matter.
Meanwhile, asked whether he had voiced his concerns to Shafie, Wong said there was no point for him to do so.
"Because if we want to use the Harapan platform, we should discuss and agree among ourselves.
"I cannot talk to Warisan and say you should discuss with Harapan. It's not the right way," Wong said.
